Make yarn from an old t-shirt and crochet it into a bowl.

You can never have to many bowls, right?
Well you can, and I have...

Still, here's a way to use up fabric from old shirts, to crochet into a bowl. (or anything else!)

Cut off sleeves and bottom hem.
Fold up, leaving a 2 inch piece.
Cut into strips, leaving an inch of the flap uncut.
Fold out, and cut strips according to this mindblowing piece of art right here...
Roll the strip up into a ball and get a hook!

Here's how I worked the grey bowl in the picture, using a 10mm bamboo hook.
I used a handcarved nalebinding (look it up) needle to weave in the loose ends, though you could also use a crochet hook or your fingers.

hdc: half double crochet

R1: chain 3, join to make ring, chain 2 (counts as first hdc), 9 hdc in ring, join in ch 2

R2: ch 2, 1 hdc in same place as beginning chain, 2 hdc in each hdc around (20 Stitches)

R3: ch 2, *hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st* around, join in ch 2

R4: ch 2, hdc in each stitch around, join in ch 2

R5: ch 2, hdc in each stitch around, join in ch 2

R6: ch 2, hdc in each stitch around, join in ch 2

R7: ch 2, hdc in each stitch around, slipstitch in ch 2

Repeat last few rows till you've ran out of yarn or are satisfied with the height of the bowl.
I did a slipstitch edge around the outside of the last row, which is optional, but looked cute.

Weave in ends.

Done!

Now you have turned potential trash into something cute. :)

I'm off, re-watching the first 3 seasons of True Blood, and counting down to the next!
